The Recruitment Process
Client Consultation:
We start by listening to you to understand your specific requirements. This can be done either over the phone or, preferably, in person. At this stage we will:
• Outline the supporting documentation that we will require from you i.e. hospital/department profile, person specification, job description etc.
• Clarify appointment / Project start dates
• Identify client contacts / Project managers
• Agree timescales
• Clarify format of recruitment plan
• Agree on the Terms of Business – to include fees and expenses
Getting a feel for the place, the people and the department helps us to put the right information out to our candidates. This in turn will give you the kind of candidate you're looking for. We will keep you informed on our progress throughout the recruitment process.
Attracting suitable Candidates:
Once we have outlined your requirements, our placement team will identify suitable candidates. These candidates will then be contacted and provided with details of the post to assess their suitability and interest. In addition, we will:
• Liase with Scanloc's consultants to source their recommended colleagues.
• Advertise the post on Scanloc’s website
• Conduct direct mailing to specialist groups
• Place adverts in Medical Journals / Publications / Online
• Attend appropriate job fairs / specialist meetings
Candidate Screening:
Candidates whose background and experience appears to meet your specific requirements will be contacted and screened by us. Checks will be undertaken to ensure that all appropriate documentation is up-to-date and candidate packs will be prepared for you to review. This will include:
• An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
• Two current references, one being from their present employer
• Comprehensive health screening questionnaire
• Full blood tests and evidence of vaccinations
• Copy of GMC / IMC / NMC registration
• Copy of entry on the Specialist Register
• Relevant police / criminal record checks
Confirmation of Booking / Terms of Business:
We will require feedback from you on all our candidates. Should you wish to appoint any of them, our placement team will provide you with a booking confirmation form and a copy of our terms of business, which you will be asked to sign and return to us.
Recruitment
We guide candidates through the registration process with the GMC / IMC / NMC as well as helping them get used to the local hospital system by highlighting the areas where their home system and the local system may differ.
All candidates are interviewed on the phone and then in person to assess their communication skills and their suitability to work. We request written references (at least one of those references is then followed up by phone), we advise on opening bank accounts and we speak to the GMC / IMC / NMC on our candidate’s behalf. Scanloc also checks candidate performance through our network of consultants and nurses in hospitals around the world
We have a comprehensive health screening questionnaire and a contract with an Occupational Health provider. They assess and issue Certificates of Fitness for our candidates on receipt of blood test reports and a current health questionnaire.
On registration, all candidates are checked to ensure they have no criminal records and at least annually thereafter.
Support for Candidates
Scanloc supports its candidates both before and during their assignment, as we find this helps make the move towards integration as smooth as possible. We get particularly involved with:
• The registration process with the GMC / IMC / NMC
• How to write and present a CV

• Where applicable, support to spouse/partner with regards to job opportunities, courses, etc
• Travel advice and arrangements – this is a continuous process as Scanloc has always recruited from off-shore

Each candidate is issued with a Handbook, produced by Scanloc, detailing their roles, responsibilities and any specific training requirements.
