The Benenden Hospital Orthopaedic Service
In December 2004 Scanloc started up an orthopaedic department at Benenden Hospital in partnership with its existing staff. A Scanloc team of orthopaedic surgeons provides the day case orthopaedic services together with physiotherapists, out-patient and ward nurses from Benenden. During the first 15 months of the project, Scanloc theatre nurses and ODPs provided orthopaedic expertise and helped to train Benenden's own theatre staff in orthopaedic theatre nursing.
Benenden has a long history of providing inexpensive, quality healthcare to their members. The orthopaedic department is now able to offer out-patient consultations and treatment as well as day case and overnight surgery. There are more than three whole time equivalent posts, with two surgeons in permanent posts and two part-time posts to give patients the best possible sub-speciality mix. Present waiting list targets are three weeks for a consultation and eight weeks for an operation.
